If you get a large quantity, these get down to $.05 per flip

Depends on your needs as to what kind of flip you require.

Acetate flips are fine for permanent storage, but do not suit my needs.
I use Mylar / cardborad flips, but I don't buy in particular size of more than 50 at a time. That increases their individual cost. All brands of these seem to be OK.
I NEVER use PVC flips, but OK for temporary storage in the way that most dealers use them, when selling some of their coins.

Is there a way to get those flips for that price, without buying a 1,000 of them?

Check wizard coin supply. They sell 100 2x2 cardboard flips for $1.95. After factoring shipping, you may still need to purchase in quantity to get it under $0.05 each.

I use Safe-T's as well. This isn't a place to skimp.

a place called coin supply express web site shows them for $2.48 each. Not sure about their postage and handling charges.
IF you can find a coin store or coin show, might find them for a bit more than that.
