To OPEN or NOT? ====>with enders SHOWING? <==== I was thinking of primarily Half Dollars, but I guess it applies to all rollers. I am (will be) new to Half Dollar boxes. I will be looking for AG. Also NIFC, but that is a lower priority. If I see a 40-90% Kennedy, a Franklin or a Walker, my question is for you 'ol salts. Is it better to open, or sell it on ebay? I see ENDERs selling for a nice price on ebay, ~~~~~ with the presumption the bidders think there may-can-will be more inside, in general. Has anyone studied this situation, and can give us newbies a leg up on CRSing? Thanks, Domain555

I'd break 'em out. Then again... I'm a collector, not a dealer.

It would be interesting to see the statistics on it.
Given a roll has 1 silver in it, what's the expected number of silvers in the roll?
Hard to say. Personally, I would take them out because a bird in the hand beats two in the bush.

I don't sell "unsearched" rolls, so I will definitely open them.

You could search it and if you find nothing else of importants roll it back up and put it on the ebay as "unsearched". I kid of course.

I don't think I could possibly resist not opening it. I do always set an ender aside so it is the last one opened. I dunno why, I guess I just like to end on a sure thing.

Weigh it first, and compare with an equivalent number of other half dollars, complete with an equvalent amount of wrapping paper of the same area and grammes / sq. metre. Do that much at least, before considering what else you may decide.

I hope I don't offend, but personally, I wouldn't let my dog sell anything on ebay. I would rather have a tooth pulled. As far as not opening an ender, it's like a gift at Christmas time, with your name on it, but you can't open it.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

Since most "unsearched" rolls on ebay are scams I'd rather not be lumped in with those scammers. Plus I'd kick myself if it was a roll of good stuff.

Jbuck Copper Dunkin slur Harm Josh SEL Fist John1 SlcrThanks for all. I am looking for stack silver (Kennedy 40% and 90%). Which I may, or may not sell, if and when AG ever goes higher than say $30-35. But if any Bennies, Walkers, or (what is the name of the series just before Bennies?) show up, , those are only for collecting. Your collective help-wisdom has me ready to OPEN all rolls.

Quote: (what is the name of the series just before Bennies?) The series before Franklins are the Walking Liberties. Before those are the Barbers. I would open the roll if I see an ender. Also there are WAY to many scams on ebay with that kind of stuff. I would not want to associate myself with them even if it is unsearched (at least to your knowledge)

I was wondering if weighing an ender roll is a good way to tell how much silver there is.
A 90% silver half dollar weighs more than 1 gram more than a clad one.

A 90% silver half dollar weighs more than 1 gram more than a clad one. I am about the last person to ask, but fools jump in ~`~`~`~`~` Hard to tell because of the unknown (WEAR) of all the coins in the roll. However, if-when you get a really heavy one, it might just be a winner.
