I had this in the clipped coin forum but there was some question if it was indeed a clip. Any ideas/opinions would be appreciated.

It might be some sort of planchet flaw. What does the side look like?

Since it extends outside the normal circumference of a penny and seems pressed on both sides I'd guess just PMD

But on the obverse, the rim dovetails and the beads (not dots. Lol) seem to fade suggesting a legitimate clip and there seems to be a Blakesly effect too. I am thinking planchet flaw with the reduced amount of metal on the reverse causing the incomplete rimming and Blakesly effect that we see. That is my best guess!

I would want it in my collection. Nice coin :)

It is some sort of planchet flaw but I don't know what kind of planchet flaw. The metal at the bottom is much thinner but it got rimmed, at least partially (on the obverse). The weakness of the strike on both sides is because of the thin metal on the planchet.

It does look like a clip however almost as if it was filled in again.

What if its a Planchet flaw that caused a Blakesly effect clipping the edge ?

I thought this 1979 I have is similar, it shows signs of 2 clips and a planchet flaw and on the reverse it's a pronounced wire rim in the flaw area.

When I first found this penny roll hunting in the summer I saw the reverse and thought it was an incomplete planchet or struck through, but it had an almost intact rim. Upon flipping it over I thought I had found a double clip, but can you have clips so close together. The obverse rim piece between the so called clips has faint traces of the beads above it. Is Blakesly effect only caused by a clipped planchet?

I recently dealt this coin to VICK, it's a triple clip, you can see how close they can be. Your question about the Blakesly effect, I know someone will chime in to answer that, perhaps SPP.

here's the link to the trip clip, https://goccf.com/t/190242

Foreign object on the die head possibly? Maybe a previous planchet was broken, then struck onto the next coin? That would seriously flaw one side, but only bend the reverse appearing to be clipped...any thoughts?
