I have had this medallion for many years and have shown it to many people and yet no ideas on it or even it's words. It would be great if someone here has the answers, origin, purpose, approx date, anything significant history wise etc. Ty in advance. Cheers.

ty philadelphian, looking forward to finally getting this solved after I'd say close to 20 years lol, I never wanted to clean it for possibly doing some damage. Now the verdigris is at least soft and ready for an acetone bath I think. After I find more info on it.

I'd say 20 years is about right.

My wife says it's a temple dedication (or re-dedication) medallion honouring one of their former revered monks. The date on the back is BE2536 = 1993.

I've tried translating from Thai to English but it's notoriously difficult with proper names.

What particularly sets the monk apart is that he appears to be smoking a traditional Thai hand-rolled cigarette.

Best I can do for now. Will try someone else for a translation.

ty Vic for helping. I'm not even sure where we got this. I thought it was odd to see him with a smoke. I'll look forward to any future translations. Cheers and ty so much for helping.
