My LCS helped a guy put together a set of commems. Not sure how full his set was, but when the collector thought he was done he brought it in to show it off. The guy polished every coin so they'd all look the same.

Only the guys who have ancient coins would appreciate this post, and the fact that MOST ancient coins need some kind pf treatment, after being interred in the ground for 20 centuries or more.
In some instances copper or brass wire brushing is the treatment required to remove encrustations from coins that have been buried.

That does look useful - very hard to find a good and cheap brass brush.

I thought this post was more of a joke, but reading some of the replies made me think again. Is this actually something useful? My thought would be this thing would leave scratches all over the place.

From the product description on Amazon. Quote: Please note that cleaning coins may decrease their value. We advise you to contact a numismatic professional prior to using any chemical or cleaning product on a coin. If assured that using the product will not adversely impact the coin, follow the instructions precisely and exercise extreme caution.

Quite funny, I usually go with a greenie, then wire wheel, and lastly, a good long polishing with the buffer.

Really not worth the price since some acids are so cheap. You just dip the coin in a strong acid and POOF, dirt all gone. AND no scratches either.

"Will Not Harm Coins" That's the greatest understatement since Noah said, "It looks like rain."
