Down to my last 4 coins, of which the 1896-s will probably be the last of which I can afford. Anyone else collect Barber book sets? I completed my Barber dime book a couple of years back, and I'm about to start a Barber half book set, as soon as I purchase a book. I have about 350 Barber halves in my accumulation to go through, and then onto ebay.

I don't collect the Barber series. But I wish you luck in your venture, as those last four quarters are showstoppers.

I collect Barber dimes, Quarters and Halves. No dollars though. Lots of fun trying to complete a set.

I have collected all FOUR Barber series (the 'V' Nickel is a Barber coin) and I still am upgrading the dimes. The Halves are reasonable to shoot for a complete set in good. The Quarters are hopelessly crippled by the Big Three (What is the fourth that you still need?) The dimes and the nickels are doable if one is prepared to settle for AG keys. These coins are most often encountered well worn. They look attractive in higher grades. A type set in Fine or better may be a nice addition to your book sets. Only four coins. I suggest looking on ebay for complete or near complete sets for a point of comparison. There are many that are low grade. When I do this I feel better about my sets! With 350 halves you should be able complete a set by selling the duplicates and purchasing the keys. I have sold a lot in order to buy dimes in XF and AU. Just my pet project. Lastly, check out the site in my signature. A good source of information. And the CCF members have posted a lot of nice Barbers for study (and bragging rights!) Good luck and welcome.

I put together a barber half set a few years ago, and am periodically upgrading it (mostly the pre-1900 dates). I decided not to go for a Barber quarter set due to the few high priced dates (as you know). Good luck in your collecting.

I never knew the V nickels were associated with the Barber coins, I guess you can learn something new every day. Thanks for all the responses. How do I reply to a reply, that the member gets a email alert? I'm still very new to this site.

coinguy, you need 50 posts to be able to send emails. However, you can select to receive emails before then. You need to edit your profile by selecting "Allow email from members." A member may subscribe to a topic. Then an email is triggered to alert the member. But this is under the control of the member and not you. The CCF maintains rigid controls to protect everyone, especially the young numismatics who visit here. Like it or hate it, the "V" Nickel was designed by Charles Barber nearly a decade before the three series for which he is better known. It took me years to do so but I assembled a set of VF or better nickels. I doubt that I'll put much more effort into it. But it makes a dandy display at the BCCS Table at a coin show. I'll be happy to help you in your Barber Quest! Learning to navigate this site takes time but it is well worth the effort.

The Barber series' are great.
I, however, never got into the V-nickels set.
long story why, but I have a few of the better & key dates.
As for the dimes & half dollars, a few sets.
The quarters, one set, but dups of all the others.
I guess I hoard the keys.
Good luck.
On the '96 S be sure to try for a full g-04, with full rims on the reverse, if possible. also, better to get one slabbed.
I recently pulled one from a dealer's case that I thought was NG.
It was and he returned it to the dealer that he got it from.
Be careful.
