well, I couldn't find like a general topic forum so I am going to post this here. I was wondering what is the best route to take to finding silver coins or say getting silver in general at a very low price. I can't do the jennedy roll search because the anks around here simply don't carry them and wont order them even if I agree to not return them there. I can do 25 cent rolls but I have not read around the forum of many doing it nor heard of people finding many. Anyway, so I was wondering if there was a way that I could find silver coins. Do you think searching quarter rolls is worth the trouble? I kind of want to do this as an investment rather than as keeping them. I am in need of cash and have noticed that while relatively cheap sells good and is easier to find than gold but wish to know what method it would be easier to find. Thank you

if you are in need of cash I don't really think this would be a fast enough payoff for you, a second job or something would be the best bet for a bigger payoff because you aren't going to find that many silver coins to actually make a profit when you add in the time it takes to search through the rolls and the amount of silver coins you are actually going to find, the part time job just working for those hours you are going to spend searching, and the gas to get the coins and to take the clad coins back I would think would pay you allot more. Of course this is just my opinion and others may have another one to share

well for me its an hobbie just get 100-1000 I'm halves and have a good ole sunday while watching football. sometimes you will find some ,some you wont. I have never found a silver quarter in rolls and ive searched many probably because the quarters circulate more than the halves so the quarters are more likely to have no silver.

Searching for silver is fun when you can see how much you have collected over a years worth of time. Not days.
If I spent all the time I spent on searching rolls for silver working an actual job, I would be farther ahead.
If someone wants to get rid of silver for very very cheep prices, you wont find it. Myself and thousands of other people will probably beat you to it. Ty

I'd have to agree with everyone else here - roll searing is not a way to make a quick buck, really. I have found many silver coins, but I have also searched through countless 10's of thousands to get them for almost a year now. That said, if you want to make a little on the side (hope you don't have to drive to far) you could always try dimes - the payout is not huge, but you will generally find from 1-10 a box, and if you searched enough, you could probably find more than a rolls worth a month, so like an extra 40-50 dollars; trust me, they will pay better than quarters hands down. Really though - PT job is much more productive $ wise - CRH'ing is really just a fun little hobby to make some tax free bucks at the end of the year, or find some cool coins to fill up albums, not to turn a profit (at least not realistically).

I had to join a credit union to get half dollars In addition I had to promise not to bring them back. I get a box a week ($500) when I am home as my credit union only orders change once a week. For the most part I will get 1 90% and 2 40% per box. Every now and again I get lucky and find a whole lot more. So on a $500 box I end up with about $10 in silver. it take about an hour to go through a box properly as I look for bu coins and errors as well. It takes me another hour to wrap them. On Sundays I drop them off at my banks Grocery store branch where the clerk is not best pleased to get them but they take them anyway. So for 2 Hours work I make about $8.50 profit which works out at less than minimum wage but I do it for the fun more than anything. Last box had a Franklin 1948 if I remember correctly.

If you are set on finding silver, get a job where you handle a lot of change on a daily basis. The job I work has a cash drawer and we go through the change. I usually find something at least once a week. Generally it is a dime, but I have found a few quarters in my day. It is also really good for finding Wheat pennies.

a job isn't an option at the moment. I had my latest spinal surgery on August 17th and disability has been driving me nuts by holding / stopping my payments for about a month now. So I am well trying to find a way to replenish the funds I am going through in my savings I used to work previously in a liquor store and in the 3 years I only got 1 silver quarter lol. Hmmmm I must find a different avenue. Thanks guys for your suggestions

As already noted your chances of finding Silver coins is a rather late idea. With the rise in Silver prices, searching rolls, bags, boxes from banks is way to common. I go to several banks and get from 2 to 10 rolls of Halves a month. Just to attempt to fill a few Whitman Albums. I haven't seen a Silver one for a few years now. NO, that idea is not a decent one for fast money.

You guys are correct on spending money on gas to buy rolls of coins to search. The price of gas will kill you and eat up profit. Its like playing the lotto on trying to find silver coins or key date nickels. Been there done that before. I used buy lots of rolls of coins and drive all over place to buy them, reroll them and sale them. Been there done that already.
I got to point these days if I have extra money and need to run arrands or do something . I will stop at banks and buy coins , search in truck. Dump them someplace like at Kroger store or my bank that has machices that turn back into cash. I did stop buying coins and driving an extra 15 miles to my bank just to buy coins. Ifs not worth with the price of gas like it is. So if you do it do on your way to grocery store or on way to your job before you report to work its worth it but not making runs to bank for onley coins everyday like I used to.
I have went thousands of rolls before. I learned the onley way you will ever find any good coins. You need buy 10 to 20 fed boxs all at same time to search at your house. One box at time its not worth with price of gas I learned.
One last thing silver dimes and quarters are so rare. I never found one yet. My last box of halves. I found maybe 10 silver coins in there aslong with 3 proofs.

Long before I learned about flipping and cracking out undergraded coins and resubmitting them for large profits, I was in dire need of funds. It takes money to make money they say and I needed some good seed money to start my side job. What I did was, I looked around the house and started selling everything I didn't need on ebay. It took several weeks to get going but it was a great way for to make the seed money I needed to become the flipper/speculator that I am today. I don't know what your mobility is like, it takes some leg work to do but if you have able bodied help available ..it might be something to think about. It's not fast money ..nothing is really but it in time, it might be something to look into. It's like you put up a garage sale sign in the living room ...lol. So far, I haven't missed anything I've sold and I enjoy the extra space. I guess I was a pack rat of sorts ...lol.

Like everyone has said, searching rolls for silver as a money-making endeavor is not worth it (a minimum-wage part-time job will make more money). I've done a little roll searching, but not all that much. From my experience, the most likely finds, in order, are: 1) 40% silver halves, 2) 35% silver War Nickels, 3) 90% silver halves, 4) 90% silver dimes, and 5) 90% silver quarters.
