I sent a 32 5 cent/Can nickel for grading to ICCS that was verified as a far 2 by a local dealer, came back as a V30 but ICCS says they don't recognize the far 2 variety. Charlton has it listed so why wont ICCS ? and who should I send it to for the stamp of approval ?

I don't believe ICCS will acknowledge varieties, but I think CCCS will.

Even for the 1922 5c, ICCS does not recognize the variety.

Shame to have to pay twice...over and over again.. They know that you will just have to rip it out ..and go elsewhere to get the info added..
Best to talk to them first and get an answer "before" wasting the cold cash..

ICCS should list that variety. They do it for the 1926 Far 6!

Agreed they should!!! and they also should have email, a computer and a web site!! why are they so ignorant and go against the long standing wishes of their clients? simple answer is: because they can!

They have a phone and you can always talk to them. I know they have computers in their office. They do publish an annual population report. Also they have a reputation and a following. I would think they have an old fashioned business model , that says " if it is not broken it does not need fixing". The old fashioned conservative approach is still most welcomed by a lot of their clientele. Until that changes , they aren't going to change either. 47 I think you are out of line with your comment "why are they so ignorant and go against the long standing wishes of their clients?" I am one of their clients and have been supporting ICCS since the very beginning(1986) as have many others. They offer a service that you can take advantage of if you wish. If you want the expense and the inconsistencies of other services it is your call. Fact of the matter is that there are many grading services out there to choose from and that we all have choices of where we spend our TPG monies. It appears that many still support the ICCS way of doing business. As an example most of the coins in the upcoming Landon sale are graded and authenticated by umm.....lets see ICCS! What a surprise. ICCS are hardly ignorant. I am not a moderator ,but that comment is just not called for!

Sadly,..I know of one collector that requested a variety be listed on the tag.(a very well known variety in the front of the Charlton catalogue ). It came back without it..So frustrating to pay for nothing.. He called them and asked "why"..and they gave him the cold shoulder. I really don't understand them at times.. It's an obvious known listed variety that has appeared on their tags before.. He asked and payed..and did not receive it.. ..and they won't change it..

"He asked and payed...and did not receive it" Then I have to assume it wasn't the variety. When it comes attributing varietys with ICCS it must be clearly be that variety. Borderline coins they do not attribute. @macdon...Either your coin wasn't a far 2 or you never brought it to there attention upon submittal. Many varietys are a $6 fee that must be paid on submitting. I'm quite sure this paticular variety is subject to the additional fee.

Oh..it was the variety ..ICCS didn't dispute that fact.(very strange)...I'll let him answer here.
He described the variety to them,.. gave them the Charlton page etc..and called them back ....They said that it was at their discretion to add it on some and then maybe not on others..
For myself..It would have been easier.. "If it doesn't go on" ..send it back with the others ..but not certified please.

I guess a calculator helps figure out how much they make.

Pacific, I am glad you vented your disapproval of my question about ICCS. Or was it the answer I gave? I respect your comments and personal opinions, and maybe I should have said Many of their clients? Would that make you feel better ? Obviously, you do not like what I asked a question about! Fact is, I am also a long time client, for whatever it is worth. However, that is totally irrelevant. Client is client. 1 coin a year, or 1000 coins every day, makes no difference in relation to our topic issue! Simply, I do not like that there is NO accessible website to confirm their graded coins! It is archaic, inconvenient and outdated !! I do not like that they pick and choose WHAT varieties they selectively grade. Their communication aspect and selective grading are my only 2 issues with them. However, it is their way of doing business. and we all have our own reason to either use ICCS or not. Perhaps you might want to post a poll about exactly this subject? and see who wins about their archaic way to handle things? All you have to do is ask 2 Questions... easy poll

I still like ICCS (with all their faults too).
Wouldn't it be wonderful for ICCS to have a website and coin pictures like PCGS and charge $35 a coin....yup....wonderful!!
