If you're getting into paper, and can't find the '35 series notes, collect rarities! Notes with replacment prefixes(*) ie. *A/M *B/M ect, rardar/ladder/low/high serial numbers ie. 0000001/9999999, 1234321, 1234567, 7654321. I've found modern notes (1980+) that are more valuable than ANY one 1935 note, because of the block series number and test prefix.
These rarity notes will all be very valuable to collectors and will make great additions to your collection, even if modern or less than UNC. Also, in 1954 the notes with the "Devil's face" design mistake, vintage/modern "test" notes, and any note in perfect(GEM) condition will hold a decent value.
But as a few have said, note collecting takes a lot of knowledge, especially in the grading field. Notes are graded much differently than coins, as the subject material is different. Design spacing, paper quality, ink boldness, and overall quality of the note plays a huge part in grading as where coins are based on wear, luster & appeal.
Dont let advice discourage you tho, note collecting just like any other collecting medium is a craft that you learn from hands-on expirience, trial and error, and literature. There is no collecting "school", so you'll have to start somewhere...good luck!!
