OK fellows, Oakie, Your knowledge on the subject is simply mind boggling and I think most of us have a hard time following your expert explanations, based on experience. I know I have to take it in slow and compare, and look at it as described and try to see what u are saying. I am putting the present postings on these subjects on hold for now. Please read below!!!!!! And think about the learning possibilities! I have a suggestion: Lets restart the topic and call it : Canada Victoria Large Cent 1858 & its varieties. Lets assign each year as a new topic so there are NO mix ups in postings and replies. Each topic to run exclusively for 1 week ( or 10 days) before the next year is posted.
If you guys agree, then I suggest Oakie should start all the new topics when he sees fit, as he is by far the most experienced on the subject, as far as I know. Any comments?

Totally with 1 thought ---10 days for the 1859's is not going to be long enough as there are over 350 different die varieties cheers Don

The idea "in principal" is great... ...but with over 400 varieties out there and many of the posters here "do" have a ton of them,..we will get quickly bogged down...I would think. Just consider that one 59 variety has morphed into a few pages of ongoing great details.. We still have to take it as one interesting cent at a time...

yes guys, that is exactly why I suggested that Oakie is in charge and decides when it is time to add another year to the existing year and as a SEPERATE topic! anyone can then take part in whatever year they want. It will open up the field to averyone. And, there are NOT over 400 varieties out there. there may be more than that on variants of the BASE variety. However, the way Oakie explains the issue, one has to use common sense and not ask stupid questions about his nine looking a bit different. Oakie has a way of describing the issues so it is understood that there may be very slight variations.

Don... that sorta sounds like a mirror to the "Canadian Copper Coin" forum...

Why not? hope there is no objection. the CCF is out anyway and it does not look like it will come back soon. it might sound and look like it, but would be organized into topics for each year. It would be much more specific and would make it easier for post. No guess about replies as to where it belongs. and, as you know, Oakiecoiner would be the perfect person to lead this section.

Quote: A totally separate forum called "Canadian Large Cents 1858-1920" If there is not a separate forum here for US Indian Head pennies or Buffalo nickels (which probably outnumber collectors of Canadian large cents by several orders of magnitude), then it is pretty darn unlikely that we'll get a large cent subform. That said, the search engines here at CCF are pretty darn good, and you can archive older posts as well.

I would love to play. The only thing that distracts me from contributing are the beautiful pictures that everyone else take. My photo skills are not up to par.

The easiest solution and best to find, as suggested: one topic for each large cent year. as long as nobody jumps the gun and mixes dates in Vicky large cent postings, it will work.

It's nice that you think that my opinion counts, but I really want nothing to do with leading any discussions or threads. I am an old retired person who enjoys helping others through the maze that is collecting Victoria large cents. My interest in the subject rises and falls depending upon other things that I am involved in. If someone has a question or needs asistance, I'll contribute what I can, but I want no more responsibility or onus put on me than it is for anyone else. There are other minds on here that deserve some tapping as well.
