I have sent an email to Chris Faulkner about this one as well... Chris said it was impossible to tell, without the item in hand... I do know that the ones that were sold in the recent Geoffery Bell auctions, Chris authenticated those pieces personally.

Are real pieces and contemporary fakes indistinguishable?

And, how would a modern fake using a real coin be detected? Exposed metal has characteristics that could be checked?
