I just came across the following at an on-line action site and can't figure out exactly what it is:

LARGE GRAND CANYON SILVER QUARTER

At first, I thought it was a 5-oz ATB, but it has a D mint mark and is a proof. Then, I thought maybe it was a actually a quarter (perhaps a proof or silver proof). The description clearly states it is a 1-oz "pure" silver quarter, however, and the COA states that it is the size of a silver dollar and does, in fact, weigh one ounce.

So now I'm figuring it is some sort of private mint thing, except that it uses the design of a real legal tender quarter, which I thought was not allowed.

Any ideas on this?

Your link doesn't get me to he item, but the web address (which is linked to the item) uses the word TOKEN right in it which would denote that it is a non-US mint privately made item

Stay away from these. The chances that these are fakes are pretty high.
Also, bear in mind the shipping fee of US$18!
No, thanks!

I'm not planning on buying this, so don't worry. Just looking for information.

Here are the pics:

In my travels, any silver bar or round that has a mirror finish like this does run a tremendously high risk of being fake (typically silver plating on brass). I have no experience with this particular type, but experience tells me these are silver plated brass Chinese fakes.

We know the U.S. mint did not make this coin, they only made the regular
size silver proof quarter and the bullion and mint box 5oz silver quarter.

This coin should be marked with "copy" and it should state on the coin
that it is 1oz. .999 fine silver. I really like the idea of maybe having
silver rounds with the same design as ATB Quarters ... but I would want the coin
to be marked correctly.

I believe that because they are clearly NOT the same size as the actual quarter, or the 5 oz variety, it does not need to be marked as a copy. Just like my 1856 FE. It is not marked as a copy, but it also about 3 inches in diameter.

All that aside, unless I could check the manufacturing company, I would not buy one.
