Hello all, I'm hoping to get your thoughts and opinions on this coins' grade and estimated value. Thanks! (this is my first post and entrance to the Coin World)

Cleaned - don't know, but it is possible. It was given to me as a gift 20 years ago.

Nice! XF45, cleaned without being scratched up, which is not the usual case with gold coinage. Value of 500+, imo.

Collectors normally refer to these as Liberty Half Eagles and your 1849 is a better date, Type 1 (No Motto) piece. As such the value is heavily dependent on condition. This date can bring $5,000 in MS62 and $1,000 in AU+. Drop it XF Details and you're looking at $400. This piece has XF/AU levels of wear but the images make it difficult to determine what the surfaces are really like. I'd say it's worth $600 to $700 retail if you have it graded by a top TPG as a problem-free XF45 or AU50.

I'm going to say natural surfaces, but bad lighting, and it has a RPD that is most evident under the 4 and the 9. XF40 from my standpoint.

XF details. It looks like it's been cleaned from your pics. Could you try and get better ones?

As requested. These were without a flash indoors, by a sliding glass door with overcast skies.

Much better...I'm still at XF45. Is there something going on under the top loop of the 9 and under the base of the 4 or is it just the angle we are looking at?

XF-45. However there are many fakes out there. Having it in a TPG holder will add value and liquidity.

Hadn't thought of that since it was a gift and has been sitting around for so long - I'll have to look into it.
