Hi everyone, dad's parents had apparently gotten these a long while ago, not sure why or when. I was just curious if someone could help me grade them (and confirm they're real!). Thanks.
as you are in the US you would be hard pressed to get much more than current melt value for either of them. I think the 1885 would grade Very Good by the British grading system. The 1958 would be around a Very Fine maybe a Good Very Fine, but I do not think it is quite that good. There may be varieties that could make them worth more but I do not know if there are.
Do not be alarmed if a knowledgeable Brit gives them a lower grade.
Yeah, when I looked online, neither was valued very high. I do know something about coins generally, but I'm still surprised that gold coins aren't worth more as coins, not just the gold. Should have invested in 1909-s VDBs ;-)
