Hello everyone.
I am looking at buying this coin here:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1936-S-Cinci...t_128wt_1362

What would be a reasonble price for this coin? The bidding started at 99 cents.

Thanks for your input!!

I am from Cincinnati so your post caught my eye.

There are a lot of surface marks on the coin that are suspect to me so I don't think it is uncirculated; they are almost like divots or dings in the surface (not scratches). I would probably look for a different example but that is just my opinion.

Thanks! I have read a number of places that alot of these coins have bag marks since there were not handled well at the mint.

As most Cincinnati halves went directly to collectors, they are usually found in mint condition, generally MS-60 to MS-63. Careless handling at the mints, however, accounts for the frequent appearance of contact marks and abrasions on these coins

IMO, the coin shows damage far beyond any bag marks it might have received at the Mint. It displays physical damage that comes from being mishandled once it left the mint (i.e., while in the hands of collectors). I would not consider the coin as an "uncirculated" piece.

Personally, I would not purchase the coin due to its various problems. The coin is relatively common and a much nice example can easily be found.

I wish you the best with whatever you decide.

I looked for over 2 year for a Cincinnati on ebay and as mentioned many are marked. This example has a serious staple scratch on the reverse. Personally I would look for a better example with patience you can fine a better coin.

I don't like it. Scratch on reverse is pretty nasty. It may sell for close to $200, but a problem-free MS63 goes for about $250 and an MS64 for about $300.

Fully concur with the wise advise already shared ...

This coin is likely authentic ... but poorly handled by whomever has possessed it post-mint.

The hits/bangs/scratches visible in the sellers photos are well beyond 'normal' mint bag problems.

I advise (as others have) to steer clear of this example and wait for a better preserved Cincinnati.
