French 20-centimes 1941:
How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Third-Edition!-Ended-At-1487-Waiting-On-1486
This coin is subtly different from the one I posted yesterday: it has the value in words rather than numerals.

The French took a long time to decide whether they wanted a 20- or a 25-centime denomination. The Act of 15 August 1795, which established the French decimal system, authorised a large copper 20-centime (2-decime) coin, but this circulated only briefly. It was replaced by a small silver quarter-franc (25c) in 1803, which was struck until 1848. A silver 20-centime coin was then minted from 1849 to 1868. There was then a long gap until 1903, when a nickel 25-centimes was introduced; this became a holed cupro-nickel coin and was last minted in 1940, to be replaced by this zinc 20c! After the franc was revalued in 1960, the 20-centime coin was reintroduced, and there were no new quarter-francs!
