I am debating buying the 2015 charlton coin guide to help me with varieties. However, I do recall a CCF member mentioning that the 2015 guide had quite a few mistakes. I can't seem to find that thread when searching for it.
So would anyone know if the 2014 or 2015 guide is better for varieties (mostly for pre 1937 obersve/reverse varieties)?
Thanks!

Each annual edition of Charlton's covers one denomination or, worse, one Monarch of one denomination. If you are looking for varieties, see which year has the denomination that you want. Vicky Cents were 2011 65th edition.

Quote: mostly for pre 1937 obersve/reverse varieties)? Which denomination were you interested in? as okie has already mentioned each Charlton's really goes into depth with one coin or denomination each edition... the 2015 had a lot to do with counterfeits written by a member here. Another good reference is the coins and canada website

Coinsandcanada.com is an excellent resource for researching varieties....Charlton's, not so much.

If you're looking for die varieties look for Zoell's books. I have a digital copy of the 2nd edition and Part 1 of 3rd edition (they're printed in the early 60s so mine are super outdated), and there are a LOT of die varieties listed for every denomination and year.

I am just looking for a book that could help me identify varieties of large cents mostly. Such as a few of the 1859, and the obverses. But something user friendly, that has pictures every now and then. Nothing too complicated

The 65th Edition (2011) of Charlton's has the back section devoted to all years "Vickies" with a list of many of the varieties and pictures. If you cannot locate one, try your local library. I know the one by me has a copy of it. (Sorry JeyRey, we must have both been typing at the same time)S

Unfortunately, my public library doesn't have the charlton coin guides anymore as of a few months ago. I don't know why the toronto library would do that, but I guess there must be a reason. Ill try and find some but I think it'll be hard.
Thanks for the help guys! much appreciated
