Hi all,

Advice on grade please for this 1896-O Morgan.
Some background. I bought it about a year ago with some others and didn't really think much of it. Recently I have been reading that the 1896-O is rare in a higher grade and am revisiting..
Now I do not think this is in any way a high grade, but am interested in your thoughts. The color just puts me off, cannot decide.. I am thinking of ~EF-40 based on wear around the ear, eagle and the color....

Thanks!

I'd be fine at XF45; I think it only misses AU50 on account of the eagle's breast being just a bit too smooth.
Colligo ergo sum
Rest in Peace

Looking at FMV, XF40 $51, AU 50 $132 a big jump.
Looks like a XF40.
Look here for FMV,http://www.numismedia.com./

I would buy it at XF prices, 45, when you get into AU, they do like some kind of original luster, ..but what about ORIGINAL GREY or a hundred something coin,, this coin might go AU50-53 depending upon the year and known strike issues..
and if luster is an issue FOR A REAL 100 YEAR OLD COIN.....

I agree with XF, but I would have to go XF details. All those rim hits really bother me and some are pretty high up on the rim. Nice Morgan though

XF 40 to 45.

It is a very tough coin in any of the "UNC" grades.
