I'm sure it's 102 - look for the void at the top of the first S. This is an interesting coin.

ah, the close up pic of the date you provided eliminates the punched look. From the first pic it looked like it for sure but yea, the toning played tricks on me. very nice coin either way though. Measuring the date position on Fortin's scale is the sure fired way of identifying which obverse is being dealt with. http://www.seateddimevarieties.com/...se_guide.htm

Nickel Guy Quote: My thoughts on the 1871 coming up for auction....gorgeous Arael Quote: Wow love that 1971 Tbone! I would jump on that if I were you. SsuperDdave Quote: Spectacular at the grade, I think, and will likely need you to reach a bit. dsfreeworld Quote: very nice coin either way though. Well I won the coin. I got it at a very, very good price. Proof Seated dimes have been going very low of late. That's good news for me though Thanks for all your comments.

Super looking Cameo proof 1871, I think I see a few hairlines around the head of liberty - maybe why it's held at a 65 grade and not higher? Do you have it in hand yet Tbone?

Not yet in hand. I should have it by the end of the week. Here's a zoom of that area.

great pick up tbone
if you're getting these on a downtrend right now than more power to you. Your set registry is impressive and this coin fits well.

I voted for coin B because when it comes to toning I prefer evenness. Coin A's obverse is too broken up for my taste. I'll take a dark chocolate toning if it is even and the strike is strong.
Still, would welcome either into my home.

Holy cow, what a score. It's your time, Tbone. The market is in your pocket for a while. Until others catch wind and jump in for the short hold while others notice a market has been made. Heck, if you make like 5 nice stabs in a row, you could start the avalanche yourself. Then wait a couple years for the rebound, and finish your collection from the short-termers getting out of the issue.

I picked up #19 for my set today at the Heritage Auction in Dallas (35 total needed). I'll probably send her in for TrueView images so she fits in well with all her sisters. 1881 10C PCGS PR67, CAC
