Yes, I saw that too. I guess they are trying to finance their wedding

Remember that EVERYTHING on ebay now comes with a "buyer beware" disclaimer.

Quote: I have a fiancé in china since visiting china twice lately... That's pretty funny.....calling Dr. Freud. Listen carefully and they'll tell you everything.

So obvious... I've never understood somebody who would collect coins but not take enough interest in them to learn to spot a fake, it really is not very difficult.

You would think if they're going to invest that kind of money, from a stranger on ebay, they would do a little research first.

I send the seller another message with a couple comparison photos Quote:Dear wiljone_1293, I attached 2 photos for your comparison. I marked two areas. The circled area shows the difference in denticles between your coin and a real 1880 proof Trade dollar On your coin they are not even in size kind of fade away. I also drew a line from the top o the one to the word GOD. Notice that the relative positions are in different places. You might need to zoom in on the images. You can also see other differences in the coins - I just pointed out a couple. In general, the details on your coin are crude. I would suggest putting a magnet on the coin. If the magnet sticks, your coin is iron. A magnet will not stick on a silver coin. A proof coin is one that was made basically as a presentation piece and is made to a very high quality with sharp details. Proof coins were not intended to be circulated. In 1880. there were less than 2000 Trade dollars made making it a rare and valuable coin. Unfortunately, lots of fake coins are being produced in China and it is destroying our hobby. Please do the right thing and remove the listing and make it right. My guess is that all the silver dollars you purchased in China are also fake. Check them with a magnet. With Regards, The seller replied that he could not see the differences I pointed out. Quote: thanks for the information I am not seeing the difference in my coin and the pics you send me and I tried the magnet and it will not try to stick I had someone look at it also they think it is real but if you think I guess I am asking you should I sell and if they say is fake I give refund or do I remove it not knowing for sure I try never to lie or be dishonest in any way please reply asap as the auction ends monday - wiljone_1293

I don't think it matters what you say to sellers like this. Been there done that.

That's when I send something like this: Quote:OK, you are entitled to your opinion. However, there is no doubt that this coin is a fake, and having been informed of this fact you are now violating Federal law by knowingly passing counterfeit US coinage.

I doubt the seller cares. Why should he since ebay doesn't care.
