I would just assume that ALL non-slabbed Mercury 16-Ds are fakes. Of course I know that's not actually true, but.....

Seeing as this is THE number one counterfeited coin out there I wouldn't bid on one unless it was slabbed even though I hate slabs.

Wouldn't even consider it. If I'm going to spend this kind of money (given the grade) it's in a reputable TPG holder.

1). The mint mark looks too big. I think the mintmark has been added to the coin. 2). Key date coins on ebay that are not in slabs are not in slabs because they are most likely counterfeit or have other issues that keep them from being slabbed. Unfortunately, there are those buyers that cannot resist this coin and it will be purchased.

I think the coin has an added mint mark. The style of the mint mark looks incorrect.

The dime itself looks good to me .but the D mint is a little flaky. as others said , wouldn't touch it unless it was certified .

The mintmark style is wrong; it's a fake.

Here is a good guideline to use, especially when buying key dates on ebay. If the seller knows what he thinks he has, like this coin, and he does not want to bother to at least ANACS it, it's more than likely not genuine.

For starters, the "D" looks awfully funky. On a side note... I find the comment "From a non-smoker collection" interesting. I've never had issues of coins smelling like an ashtray.

The seller may want buyers to think he's "not blowin' smoke" on this offering, huh"
