A reverse pic would be helpful.

The top of whatever the year digit is looks to roundish for the "3" on the 1913 one in my opinion.

I hope it is too, but I just can't see anything in these pictures. But Buffalos aren't close to being a specialty. In hand, and angling it towards various light sources, can you make out any of the digits?
I'm wondering if a drop of dicam (SP?) would reveal anything without affecting the coin. I'm sure it would dissolve in acetone later.

Rackster, I have a handful of Buffalos with little to no date. I have been able to make out a few of them using a 14x and 10x loupe, but this one is tough. The pictures posted are as good as I can see it.

That's too bad - it could be a major coin. If you do elect to pickle the nickel, I'd practice on another buffalo in order to get the process down. For this one, I might be tempted to use an eye dropper to place a small amount of white vinegar/H2O2 mixture on the sweet spot and only go until you can make out some numbers. I'd leave the rest of the coin undisturbed. BUT, only as a last resort.
Good luck!

Welcome to the board. If you have a scanner you can scan the picture b/w and then change the contrast in a photo program. Take a couple different angles to mess with the contrast. You should be able to get something.
Good luck.

The problem with trying to use anything to bring out the date could also ruin it's value. Keep trying with different lighting. Anything is better than ruining the coin.
