I went to my first coin show yesterday, the Winter Wasatch Coin Show in Sandy, Utah. I wasn't sure what to expect, or if it would be well attended or not. I was shocked to find a full parking lot when I arrived at the convention center. The room was packed wall to wall with dealers and the attendees were such that it was difficult to walk down the corridors at times.
I asked my kids if they wanted to go, and the 5 and 9 year old girls did. They seemed to enjoy all the cool gold and foreign coins. The 9 year old particularly liked a display of older Sheriff badges. The 5 year old told me she wanted a $20 St Gaudens she found on display.

(Yeah, me too!) I told them they could pick out a coin and they both went for 1 oz copper rounds. Who can resist big and shiny?

. There was a seller who offered them a free foreign coin, too, which I thought was nice. And another guy showed my 5 year old some neat Origami with $2 bills. There was a representative from CONECA showing everyone some dramatic error coin examples. The kids found that to be neat. I think they had fun and I'm glad some seem interested in catering to the kids.
I was overwhelmed, and could have spent a lot of time and money, but just ended up with a couple of very nice
Franklin halves for my set as well as a Fiji Turtle silver bullion.
All in all a fun afternoon and I am pleased to see the hobby is alive and well here in Utah.
