Can you guess the grade ANACS gave this coin?

I don't see anything that would hold it to AU, but I have found that a photo does not always show light rub. But I will call it MS.
And I would not dare judge cleaned vs no problem from the photo.
Second photo shows some light marks on the nose and cheek.
Eagles leg has a bit of a bruise.
I call it a 65 with a shot at 66.
I am thinking ANACS called it a 64.

I was very disappointed at what they graded it at. Yes I see the marks on the nose and Eagles leg which I thought might bring it down to Ms64. But this! No way!

That's crazy. I was thinking MS-66 or at the least a 65.

Bust it out of the holder and submit it to PCGS or NGC.

Don't they (ANACS) grade anything that is MS and judged to be cleaned . . . don't they grade all of those as "60"? A quick check on ebay, yes everything that is MS and cleaned gets a "60".
What to do? If you think it is original crack it and start over. I have about four right now that are in line to be cracked. It's just money right?
While you are at it give it a vigorous dip!!

Wait a second . . . that full slab shot does have a odd look about it.
Spud, does it cartwheel properly?
Maybe someone already dipped it pretty hard. So please disregard my earlier suggestion to dip it, someone might have beaten you to it!

It does still have a nice cartwheel effect. I really don't think this coin was ever cleaned. I'll pull it from the slab and include it in my Dansco album instead of my slabbed collection. Fortunately it was graded by them free on a two coin grading promo. So all I'm out is shipping. I was just hopeing to have a nice MS65 for the SLABBED part of my collection. Yeah I read on another thread that some days a grader grades up to 200 coins. Not sure that's correct, but maybe 50 to 100. Who knows. They need more graders if that's the c ASE

A dip, vigorous or not will most likely kill that coin.

My first thought when I saw the pic was that it was dipped. I collect eagle backs and that is not a very well struck coin at all. Even for the date.

It is madening trying to get decent coins from the 1930's. I am no expert nor am I rich enough to go after the highend MS stuff from this decade. Sometimes you cannot get what you want but what your budget allows.

My suggestion was tongue in cheek, just grumbling about the state of affairs these days with the graders. Then when I saw the full photo . . . . was the first I thought it may have been abused. But.Spud assures us that it cartwheels properly.
While I am guilty myself of dipping a really ugly coin, I also prefer original stuff. But, most of the early (I do Washingtons exclusively, so early is the 30s) stuff indeed has no or little original patina. My favorite pieces (see my avatar) are well toned.
Oddly, on the occasions that I do decide to dip one (I am hesitant to the point of paranoia), I have been pleased with the result 100% of the time. As well, done properly and to the correct piece, it seems the graders just can't tell. Or don't care . . . .

For the record, the obverse is a poster child for "incomplete dip." Either the owner chose not to leave it in the dip long enough or didn't know to, but toning doesn't appear in sharp patches like this. I'm speaking from experience here.
