I buy coins often, and have followed the forum for some time. I am mostly into US coins but today purchased a decent size lot of coins from an older lady. Most all of them are uncirculated. They are all nickels and pennies. I am familiar with nickels being 99.9% nickel and obviously pennies being copper as I have a large amount of US copper pennies. I ended up only paying $30.00 for the whole lot, which was an obvious no brainer....I would estimate there is about $100 face value in total. Any info from canadian coin experts/collectors would be great! The lot includes: 17 uncirculated rolls of 1962 nickels 19 uncirculated rolls of 1963-1964 nickels half a lunch bag of 1962 nickels uncirculated half a lunch bag of 1963-1964 nickels uncirculated 10 uncirculated rolls of 1962-1964 pennies 1 basket full of 1962-1963 pennies (Most uncirculated, some dirty)

Have a look for the 1964 extra water line nickels. The 1962 penny has some neat varieties like the hanging 2 or die clash, double date and harp/guitar. I would wear some gloves handling the coins so as not to fingerprint them if they are uncirculated. I love finds like this. Congrats. Oh ya and Welcome to the forum!

Sweet, get those loose ones into tubes so they don't get any more marks on them.

If you knew that there was a hundred if face why didn't you give her a hundred for these? You are only new here , But most of us here shun sharks that rip little old ladies off

I had no idea going into it what she had, she simply said she had a lot of Canadian money and wanted $30.00 for it. For people in the Southern United States, there is no means of cashing these in, so they are just "junk" coins to most.

I understand bloomberg, been to Florida a few times and Canadian change is like funny money. Unusable. Proximity to the border matters. Understand you in wanting to protect the innocent, trout1105 but I think both parties in this exchange came out OK, but you could have offered more knowing there was over $70 in rolled nickels. Welcome to the forum and good luck in your search. 1964 5 Cent Spitting Queen http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...ts-1964-1964

Was that 30$ US or CND, there is about 15% exchange right now. I think as long as she was aware of the amount of face value, then maybe it was junk coin to her. I always offer at least face for jars/bucket collections from those I buy from.

I buy lots of circulated Canadian coins off US dealers all the time... sometimes well below face... they simply cannot get rid of it...

If I were you, I wouldn't be advertising a 'score' of $100 face off an elderly lady for $30, regardless if it's Canadian coin purchased in the US.
Sorry, but that doesn't sit right with me.

Guys: A mistake was made and has been pointed out. Let's not continue jumping down on the guy.
There are dealers in the states that will charge 50-80% face for their CDN coins. They are just NOT accepted there and as a result nobody wants 'em!
If you went to buy a bunch of coins and saw that lot and asked how much do you want for 'em.. and they said $30... You're a better person than most IF you decide to give 'em more.
Everyone's points here are valid and I'm not saying anyone is wrong.. but hopefully lesson learned and move on...
In Bloomberg's defense it was the lady that gave the price.... And let's not think this is some poor old unknowing lady... she may have no interest in coins (which is fine) and she may also know that there is no way someone other than a coin collector will give her any value for the coins, so it's best to get something over nothing.
Just my point of view ....
