Just inherited this set. Been looking on ebay and people are
putting large numbers on this set but no one is going for it. Is this set in demand to collectors. What do you think.

The current market value for the two-coin JR proof set with the silver dollar and gold half eagle is in the range of $525-$550. Of course, some sellers will ask for much more.

The Uncirculated version of the JR gold half eagle is the high dollar coin from the set - it retails for about $2,250. While high, this price has fallen dramatically. A few years ago, the coin sold for over $4,000!

No, that is an example of the special "Legacy Set" which features a proof half eagle, baseball card and pin in a nice wooden case. It does not include a silver dollar.

It generally sells for a premium over the two-piece (gold half eagle + silver dollar) set which came in the standard hinged-box package.

Thanks commems.

I am confused as to why the uncirculated JR half eagle is worth so much more than the proof.

@Buddy: It's a matter of mintage. The final mintage for the Proof version of the coin was 30,180; the Uncirculated had just 5,174 sold. The Unc coin's mintage is the lowest of the modern US commemorative series.

LOL -- I never thought to look at mintages and I know better.

By the way, I got the boxed set for my husband for Christmas. It's pretty nice and he likes it. We had enjoyed watching our (sort of) local Little League team, Jackie Robinson West, last summer.
