fellows, please look at these 4 rev 1858's.
please look careful and try and come up with grades for each coin.
AND, please see if you can find any significant and noticable differences.
obviously Coin A is in a slab and graded.
None of the other 3 are.
will post the obv tomorrow or Saturday.
Thanks for your input.

A: low MS (unless I'm missing wear somewhere)
B: EF45 (bit of wear on the leaves at the bottom/mid left and right)
C: VF30 (more wear in the spots named for B)
D: AU details (cleaned)

Nice coins 47P7...
A- looks MS63
B- is the one you showed us in the other thread, AU-58
C- EF-40
D- AU details cleaned

Needless to say, one has to see the obverses.

You don't.. but 47P7 wanted a guess on the grades.
That's what we were doing.

I just guessed based on some of the wear I see. And yes, I would need the obverse to give a full opinion, but I believe this was meant as a fun little game.

Btw I like the strike on B, really nice!

A: AU55, Re-engraved 5, -only a very small amount of wear, luster remains
B: XF40, plain 5 -really nice die crack @ 4:00 & sharp detail
C: VF20, Re-engraved 5, cleaned. Weak N
D: VF30 C, Plain 5, cleaned w. Excessive hairlines in the fields.

Great collection of 20's! Sorry if I'mterribly off on grading! I'mexcited to see the slab on A!!

thank you so far.
I specifically asked to grade rev and I said I will post obv later
I have reasons for that.

please all, have a look at the following:
1 the crown
2 the distances to the rim of leaves on the right side, leaves
#1-10

is it just me, or are there significant variants between Coin A and the others?
Perhaps you guys would want to post the revers of your 1858 20 C coins to compare?

A: High AU or Low MS
B: AU-53 possible cleaning (breaks in luster, haloing around devices)
C: VF-30 - EF-40 depending on obverse
D: AU-Details, harshly cleaned.

This all speculation though. With 20-Cents, strike quality often plays a role in grade and can make the reverse look over or undergraded. Without thr obverse, an accurate grade is impossible.

The obverse can tell you a lot about the reverse variety on the 1858's...along with the 2 varieties of 5's and also 2 varieties of I's in Gratia, Regina & DEI (blundered). Once the obverses are up then we can make some guesses on varieties. Its possible there is slight variations in the crown & leaves between the varieties...just my thought.

EF-45
EF-40
VF-20
VF-30 cleaned

That is completely based on an estimation of what the obverse (probably) looks like though.

In all honesty, I have very little knowledge (because there is very little importance) in grading reverses, so I have to pass.

I'll chime in when the obverse pics are posted.

Coin B is the same one you put in the other thread... something is just not right about that coin - I would not touch it if it was offered to me...

Despite the reverse scratches, I like Coin D the best...

Ok fellows, with some delay on the promise to post the other side, here it is below.
the reason why I wanted you to look at and grade is this:
Picture A.
Grade of the slabbed, pix A, is PCGS MS63.. amazing How they arrived at a 63?
my aim was to see if any of you would detect the very obvious difference in the crown in Picture A, compared to the others.

Maybe I am out to lunch on this one. But I see what I SEE!
and what I see is a different crown! look at the jewelles aroud on top, both sides. definitely much larger!
so, either another die, or just maybe,?
