Case scenario- 1918 large cent, absolutely flawless, I saw 3 very tiny contact marks with a loupe. Brown 95% with some golden striations 5% both sides. There is luster (shine) but not copper colour. No thumbprints etc. I was told TPG's would not grade a coin like that higher than MS64 BRN, any thoughts? Is there a TPG that will, beside's a basement grader lol. Sorry I don't have an example picture.

Here are a couple of mine at MS65 Brown... Both are graded by PCGS, as far as ICCS not grading above MS64 for Brown, I will have to defer to those who come across ICCS graded coins more, here in the U.S. I have not seen any examples of ICCS Brown graded above a 64...

No problem, if I recall a while back, someone posted an MS66 BN large cent that was just outrageous

I think there was a MS67 BN as well that was posted. I'll try and find it in the thread again. I think it was NGC graded. Not sure how ICCS/CCCS would've went about it, but it was gorgeous nonetheless and sweet coins jd

Only the US TPGs will grade copper without taking color into account. ICCS will not. It's always been a topic of controversy. I believe the theory would be that if the coin has toned away from original it should no longer be considered high MS.

welcome back Paul, too much sun lol. So what's your stance on this, do you think color should play a part in the verdict of grade?

If a coin is flawless, it shouldn't make any difference if it's brown or blue... BTW..jdmern, your 1919 looks more red to me than brown or, is it just the photo?

good point shafta, I absolutely agree with you there, be it nickel, silver or copper etc.
So having heard how T.C.H described the possible theory of toning on coins changing their grade outcome with copper. Across the board it should be that way including monster toned silvers that get full high grade attributes! If it is one way for one metal is should be the same way for all metals used in coin producing, True?
