Hi! I'm new here and very very much an amateur when it comes to coin collecting, but I enjoy it. I was casually looking around ebay, and this coin caught my eye: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1859-Indian...em2349fd3559. Now, I know it is in pretty unfortunate condition, but I was wondering whether not not this was worth the $8.95 it is listed for. I do like cent pieces more than anything else, so I am very interested in it.

As a side note, how would you grade (G-4, maybe?) this and what are the chances that it isn't authentic? There is an estimate here of a 'Good' coin for $9, although I can't really know myself how accurate that price is. http://www.coinstudy.com/1859-india...y-value.html

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Definitely pass on that one, for a few bucks more you can get a nice looking coin that you'll be happy with for years.

to the coin community! You did the right thing by asking the opinion of other collectors before purchasing this coin. I collect primarily cents and in my opinion this coin is not worth the $9. Be patient and the right coin will come along. Feel free to post other coins and ask for opinions. Education is the key to success when it comes to coin collecting so go online and read up about the Indian Head cent series. The more you learn the better informed desicions you'll make. Good luck on your cent collecting!
