Hi there,

Can someone help me to identify this coin? Is it a coin? I know that it must be from Turkey, and the symbol on the obverse indicates it is from the Abdulmecid era (1839 - 1860), but I can't find it on OttomanCoins.com or in the KM catalog, or tell what denomination it is, or what date...

Hello and welcome,

This is a tough one, I checked both Turkey and Egypt but there isn't anything listed in the Krause Catalogs.

It's from the Indian State of Hyderabad. Here's a similar example from WCG.

Yes! You're right, it's Hyderabad. How strange that they're using the exact same toughra as Turkey.

The coin is 31.3mm in diameter, so I've narrowed it down to KM#36 1/2 Anna (1324-1329AH) or KM#47 1/2 Anna (1332-1348AH). The first one is copper, the second one bronze, and unfortunately I can't tell the difference between copper and bronze.

Does anyone know what the date is?

The date is the four figures above the bottom stroke of the toughra; these are Hyderabad numerals, slightly different to regular Arabic ones; these numerals are included in the table printed in the Krause catalogue. Looks like "1324" to me.
