This ebay sale is a little ignorant: In the 1790s Guenzburgs mint signature was changed from G to H. From that time on I believe graz used the G mint mark. Guenzburg mint closed in 1805:

Nice coin though

Austrokiwi, you seem to be a bit ignorant too, as the Nagybanya mint used the "G" letter.

I am not aware of any thaler of that period (Francis I) to have been struck in Graz.

Therefore, the mint here must be Nagybanya (also known as Karlsburg in today's Romania), not Graz.

Numismatics is a discipline with an almost endless number of sub-fields to specialize in. Even seasoned numimatists are usually not walking encyclopediae. It is very understandable that errors can be made, even by specialists. That's why I think we should avoid using terms like "ignorance" when pointing out things we have a different opinion about, even if we happen to be right.

Mint mark "G" : Gunzburg Mint 1764-65; Nagybanya Mint 1766-1829.

You guys seem to attach emotional labels to some words unnecessarily. I am ignorant on a lot of things....I have no problems with the word ignorant being applied. It must be something in US culture I guess.

austrokiwi You are correct that in US culture the word "ignorant" used in reference to another person could get you punched in the face in a bar. It is considered to be an insult. I think that it is a cultural thing and when to use it depends on local custom.
