Ilikeiles, I think you nailed it. Are you a regular VAMmer? Personally, I find Peace dollars harder to identify than Morgans.

I'd call it "irregular"... have some experience, got 2 discovery coins via LVA in past. Learned the hard way to do my homework first, and narrow things down, rather than post pics for "free" help..it irked the senior memebers in the forum years ago. I have a MS65 1883-O toner I bought yesterday which I will post on another thread..THIS one is off the charts with clashing and may have a weak E letter transfer..hoping for a 1883-O VAM-36A.If so, unsure how many MS65 out there.
As far as this Peace dollar, It's sure fun to match the diagnostics up.

Cal, I'm about where you are in the VAM thing. And have caused occasional anger in the discussion boards. I't isn't a bad thing to challenge the thinking of establishment minds, and will probably do it again.

Question everything. Including yourself. That's how you get your name on Discovery Coins. And ruffled feathers. You haven't lived until you've publicly suggested a widely-reputed scholar is wrong.

It should be noted that it really helps if you're right.

I found that forum helpful, but, very "clicky"..if your in, your fine..if not...later gator..my experience with die marriages, which many had memorized, was not helpful..what really ticked em off ws my oversized giant pics...OMG...it reached the point where NOBODY would answer mt posts, so, I hit the road.
And, yes, I get a kick of of ruffling feathers..when I had an 1878 NEW Variety found, I got a lot more respect..

I often fail to respond to large photos because of my download time. At best, maybe 28Kbps. Dial-up. Windows XP. And that's my excuse for being a slow learner.

That's why it's polite to keep your images below 500kb. Not everybody has a 50Mbit pipeline. It's not difficult to create a coin image 1000px in diameter with a filesize under half a Meg. Heck, you can get clear 800px images through the CCF Optimizer, and that limits you to 100kb.

Anyone know where to find the RARITY LIST for Peace dollars...the R Rating pages on Vamworld..lost it, cannot find it. Speaking of that, I "lost" the coin this morning...just found it..I put it in a paper slip that had a 78-P Ike dollar in it, and, put it in my IKE Drawer, which also is a drawer holding coins for sale..I just happened to flip the paper over, and, walla.maybe I need to be more organized...ughhh

Your best bet for Pops is an SSDC membership and the VAM Registry. It's been heavily subscribed by the hobby and they're starting to get enough data for pretty clear determinations of rarity. Heritage's archives are large enough for reasonable conclusions about overall condition rarity.
