Possible double error lincoln. Not sure what to do about this one. It is a Wide AM to start. Louped it at 12 power (a microscope next I guess would be smart) Ruled out digits 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 Leaves only 0 and 9 Can see impression of digit just slightly above and to the right of the last 9 Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Forgot to mention. Grease marks in the date area and on the rim also. Image: 1999WAMcloseup.jpg7.29 KB Image: 1999WAM.jpg35.97 KB Image: 1999WAMR.jpg36.31 KB Edited by bonham3 09/28/2007 03:03 am

Could be a 1990, 1991 or 1992 which would be normal wide A M?

Yes, 1990 was the only other possibility. It is not a 91 or 92 for sure. Hard to see in pic. but at two diff. angles seems to be a nine. Off center (high and to the left) thin hit. Gotta put it under a microscope first before doing anything. If by chance it is a 9 (verified and then certified) ? a double goodie or a whammy ?

The obverse design does not match with anything later than 1991. The beard is the right shape and the shoulder is the right depth only for 1990 or 1991.

I guess 1990 is it then. I was curious, so I put two clear pics. of a 90 and 99 side by side and did see the differences you mentioned. Also I noticed the 1 digit on the 1990 is slightly higher up than on the 99 That helped also. Any value to it anyway ?

Its like all coins errors. Finding the right person that collects these. I would save it would be a mild premium. Some people collect everything.

Well, it appears to be environmental damage to me, and not even an error. I'd have to see the coin in person to tell for sure, but even if it is a struck through obstruction coin, it's not worth much.

Thank's, Both of you.
I learned that the presence of the grease in the direct area affected, might of played a roll with the die process. I had to wipe off some of the grease just to see what was not there :) You can easily see the residue. Also on the rim and the rev. I understand the value is not much either way but if you wanted to look at it, it would be fine with me. Hey, I still want a peek at it myself through a scope. I'm still amazed at some pics. or scans I see. So up close. I tried digital and my scanner but not even close to some of those. have to look into the "how to's" on that also.
