THE STORY:

A couple of weeks ago a retired gentleman decided to sell all of his silver to a local coin dealer. Nearly 2000 Morgan and Peace dollars and bags of other silver coins. This caused the price of common date Morgan and Peace dollars to plummet locally to $11 per. As I was looking through the pile in the junk silver display, I could hardly contain my excitement as I spied this key-date beauty the dealer had overlooked in his haste. As was mentioned, the 1928 can easily be confused with the 1923.

I calmly built a pile of coins and filled an empty roll. I picked out a total of 21 coins and paid $231. I kept the 1928 and sold the other 20 for $260 (including shipping) on ebay. The net after expenses was 242.60.

As it turns out, I got paid $11.60 to own this coin. That was indeed a great birthday present.

THE FINE PRINT

Contest ends October 7, 2007 at 10:00pm website time. Your guess of the price should be denominated in whole US dollars, no cents or tax percentage is necessary for your guesses. Closest to the actual dollar amount will win. In the case of duplicate correct guesses (for example guesses of 999 and 1001 would both be right if the price were 1000, and no one else guessed 1000), the first entered here on the website will win the prize. There will be no hints given, so don't ask! One guess per member. You can have any number of posts and be of any age.
