I'm going to guess 1893-CC.

I lean 1893 myself but it isn't possible to be sure from angled images as they foreshorten features and distort the result. I *do* think it's identifiable. There are - near as I can tell - only 2 in PCGS P01 slabs....

picked it up for $34 guy had it marked as an 83 or 82....looked at it and thought it could possibly be a 9 ...the second oval is larger than the first...not much...working on mint mark location and trying to match it up off vamworld. I may have to break out the microscope.

OK. The more-accurate images convince me it's 1883. The interior of a 9 is noticeably elongated by comparison to an 8, and there's enough meat left on the third digit inside and out to prove it's an 8. With 1883 assumed, the mint mark seems very likely that of VAM-2.

So we have a P01 not only dated but attributed.

To add: 1883-CC is more difficult than one might think as a Lowball. Almost 63% of the mintage survived to the GSA sales, and relatively few circulated. The relevant PCGS Registry indicates 5 in P01.

Oh, dear, bpoc, it occurs to me I have an email from you which slipped through the cracks - your post reminded me. I shall rectify this.
