I got a 1938-D Liberty Walker recently for $47. The prices of these coins must be falling. It should have been worth at least %100 according to the Red Book 2015. This is all I collect for now. I do feel driven to complete my collection.

A picture would help for grading.

I bought a roll of Walking Liberty half dollars and found one of these in it. I dont think it would grade higher than G-VG at best.
Your price paid depending upon condition (anything better than G) is a good one.

The 1938-D Walkers were hoarded, many years ago. The availability of these, akin to the 1921 and 1928 Peace dollars tends to exceed demand. A dealer at the FUN show had 14 rolls of the 38-D's in his case. I've long been able to pick them up for $45-$55 in the F-VF range. Going through dealer boxes, one can often find multiples of these "key" coins. IMHO, the coin publications have long ignored the supply side of some keys like these.

What about 1916 and early Liberty Walker's? Can you find those in rolls in better than good condition? My dealer never has them in good shape. How is supply side for the early walkers? On ebay all I see usually are early coins in EF or uncirculated condition going for huge prices. I have gotten a few 1917's and a 1918 for reasonable prices but these are in Very Good to possible Fine condition. I can't show the pics here because I don't have the technology. I am not trying to sell them either. Where is the best place to buy the walkers? I don't think the Red Book really describes prices for these coins.

At almost every coin show I go to I see dealers with large amounts of Walking Liberty halves. Seeing many 38D's too is common. Must be one of their best sellers since they have so many or just a lot of them around.

I think the price of silver has something to do with it. A lot of old junk halves are sold just for scrap. Even good ones are scraped. Let the price of gold or silver really start to rise and lots of gold and silver comes out of the woodwork. I wish my wife would see all the 14 Ct junk she has which she bought when it was 1/4 the price it is today. She is a hoarder when it comes to that stuff. Silver and gold are just like any other commodity except gold has mystical value in Asia and Middle East and Africa too. It is wearable wealth. They wear gold around their necks and we drive a BMW or Mercedes.

Is there a coin show near Tampa any time soon? How do you find out?

You could try Googling "Tampa Coin Show." Coinshow.com is a good source.

The disparity of value for the 38-D's, price guides vs. shows, makes them great sellers. What collector doesn't like getting a bargain? Many collectors judge value by prices quoted in the magazines. Walkers in general have long been one of the most popular series to collect ... the design, the silver content and the overall cost factor to complete a set all contribute to its appeal.

IMHO, the "key" Walkers in grades below a true fine are quite plentiful and tend to be over-valued in the retail market. Savvy collectors can often buy these at shows from the high volume dealers. The OP's coin is typical of the buys that can be made at shows. If a dealer knows you to be a repeat buyer and not simply a "tire kicker," he'll give you some great buys. Buying coins in volume will get you the better deals, too.

While I've not personally seen rolls of the early date Walkers, they no doubt exist. I did once visit the home of a dealer who had six rolls of 1909-S VDB's. He was an old-timer who, along with his then deceased father had hoarded this date, among others. He would only sell those, piecemeal, to certain buyers. His holdings were among the largest I'd ever seen. Dealers, like collectors, are often reluctant to share the extent of their holdings.

Wow, no wonder I can't find one in a reasonable price... this fellow has them all.
