For my WWII set I'm collecting, I have all my zinc wheat cents.
They are in fantastic shape. Low MS would be my guess. The only issue is they are hazy looking.
I assume this is proper toning for the zinc cent?
I should leave it alone and enjoy it's ageing?
Like toning on silver coins this acceptable?
Proper care and storage techniques same as any other coin?

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

As they all say, "NEVER CLEAN A COIN!" I would leave it alone and enjoy the way they look because once you do anything to it it is no longer ms.

I would screw encapsulate them all, each to their own diameter.
If you can't find the capsules, Mylar 2x2's in archival quality non PVC album pages is OK.
If in a humid climate, further protect in a cliplock polyethylene plastic bag.

No wheat cents were made using copper plated zinc planchets.

Show us what you say is "hazing", I'd like to see some pictures.

How about zinc plated steel cents. Is that a better description?

Here is a picture for you to look over.
Yes, Zinc Coated Steel to be exact.

On the Obverse you can see it around "trust"
and on the left side from 6 - 10 o'clock.

The Reverse is almost 100% hazy with a few spots of clear.

It's like someone drove down a dirt road with these on the roof of the car. I don't dare wipe it in case it's abrasive.

Thoughts?

Hey, congrats on the 50 posts, One50. Just imagine the hoopla when you post number....One50....

And thanks for taking the time to post pics.

This one does look it was at one point dusty/cruddy all over...then maybe put in a pocket and the high points were rubbed clean? I'd leave it alone too. Or acetone bath if you're sure it's just light surface crud.
