Wespnex is Oct 19-21 at the Westchester County Center

CoinFest is Oct 27-28 at the Greenwich Civic Center

Is anyone planning on attending?

I've never been to a major coin show so if I decide to attend ConFest this will be my first. I'm trying to decided between them. Since my budget is low, I don't know whether I can find coins at a big show like CoinFest. Many big dealers will be at CoinFest.

Over the years I've found that the larger the show, the higher the prices of coins. Not necessarily always, but usually. I've noticed that when you pay admittance, parking fees, etc. the table rentals are usually more for dealers. Then those shows are usually several day shows which means a dealer must stay at a hotel/motel, pay for food, etc. All this taken into account raises the prices of coins to pay for that.
If you are not a coin show frequenter, really know what you want, what you can afford, what prices should be. Don't take a lot of cash or it will be spent to fast and you'll be saying Ooppps. Leave credit cards and check books at home. There will always be other coin shows.

Thanks carl. Just what I was thinking. I can easily avoid CoinFest and attend the Westchester show as its much smaller and I've been there before.

Sometimes the displays can be worth the trip to a regional shows.

http://www.thecoinfest.com/page/page/4583158.htm

I went to the ANA's money show down here in 1999 or 2000 and got to see one of Benny Franklin's Libertas Americana medals on display. That alone was worth it.

Greenwich Conn. huh? That's where all the hedge fund boy wonders have their mansions. Wouldn't it be funny to see one of them scurrying around like a rat, hedging his hedges with gold or something else that's actually real?

I recall that didn't buy anything at the first few big Baystate coin shows in Boston that I went to. Two reasons, I was an academic researcher on a tight budget (actually way over extended on credit cards) and I knew that I didn't know enough about coins to purchase wisely. But I saw some gold staters of Alexander the Great and many other beautiful coins that made it well worth it. I had a great time and learned a lot just by "window-shopping". Plus I got to meet some nice folks and talk some coin talk.

Since this is my first time going to a large show I have a question.

At smaller shows most (if not all) tables do not except credit cards so you have to carry a bit of cash if you wish to make purchases. Do the larger show tables usually take credit cards?

No credit cards at shows I have been to. Cash is king. Some dealers will take checks, many will take checks only if they know you or you have someone (a dealer they know) to vouch for you.

I love Wespnex, its where I started almost 40 years ago going as a kid.... but honestly Coinfest is the show to attend....

here is why... Coinfest has 100+ dealers of all sizes small, medium, and large.... there is something for everyone... $2 coins and $100,000 coins

Coinfest has no charge to get in, plenty of FREE parking, and the 1st 100 people on Sat get either a Silver Morgan or Silver Peace dollar....on Sun the 1st 100 get a Red Book

Coinfest has many guest speakers on both days... see website for schedule of talks

Coinfest has several great exhibits on display, hobo nickels, early US money, even the unique 1870-S Half Dime valued at $2,500,000

The idea behind Coinfest was to bring a National type show to the NY metro area... if you look at the dealer list you will agree that there is something for everyone... errors, ancients, currency, supplies, etc... its all there!!

So spread the word and be part of something truly amazing and special.... sort of like attending the 1st woodstock but only instead of music its all about the coins!

CAC will be there on SAT giving collectors FREE stickering of their pcgs/ngc coins (limit 20 per person)

no... me biased

but I do love the Wespnex show... Mark the promotor is a dear friend who I honestly hold in the highest regards....

I have been setting up at Wespnex for many years when the original promotor Earl from Eastchester ran it......

When we set up Coinfest we felt that Wespnex would only be helped by increasing awareness in coins in the area....

Coinfest is really a mini National show and we are trying to put some fun stuff back into the show.... the way shows used to be many years ago....

but looking at both shows I think that we all would agree if you had to pick one that Coinfest would be the one to pick but I hope someone could attend them both....
