Came across this the other day, looked nice to me. I'm new to this side of the forum, and Canadian coins in general, and I'm just wondering what the grade and value of the coin is.

Thanks!

1859 narrow 9, VF cleaned. Retail value is $4 or $5. Welcome to the Canadian side.

VF details for me as well. Narrow 9 variety. It's worth something like 5$, but you might get a bit more on ebay. I've seen them go for a little more than book price lately, so maybe $8

Yes, F-15. It also has two die cracks. Its in nice condition considering being 156 years old and used as money.

It's been graded in the other Forum by 2 or 3 members as a VF30..

Would that be the result of a weak strike I have a VF-30 graded coin and it looks nothing like the large penny. When I picture that penny in my head in VF-30 and then I take off half of its grade to 15 it fits right in. Its gotta be at least a 20

I would say it can be easily VF-20. Also I was wondering I can see that the nine is low, but how low does it need to be to be a low 9?
And on ebay lately you can have a better price than the books( I sold many and was surprised how high it went up).
