Is that stripped to the zinc layer or just stained? The only possible error I could think of is a lamination error that fell off. I am however not a expert on error coins in the least bit. My first guess would be stained.

There is no laminations on zinc cents. The plating may peel, but nothing peels off the zinc. Looks like the plating was stripped on this coin. If it were a real partial plating the area in question would be smooth. Note the smoothness where the plating is missing. Not like the example above.

The area in question, does appear to be smother than the plated area. I took closer images for you. There is a transition line that goes from grainy to smoother. I have never seen a non plated coin in hand. Honestly, when I saw this coin, my first thought was, the plating was polished off with a dremmel tool. Was your conclusion PMD then Coop?

It looks like a genuine example of incomplete plating. Subsequent discoloration and oxidation of the exposed zinc has left it with a somewhat suspicious appearance.

So, it's real! Thanks Mike. I'm actually surprised this is actually an error coin. I just saw it sitting in the give a penny take a penny cup at one of my accounts. It didn't look right

Thanks Mike. Nice to have the right answer.
What is going on with the "N's" on the reverse on ONE CENT?

I concur that it is an imcomplete plating error, nice find . The zinc is a bit rough but the tell-tale sign for me is the darker band between the copper and zinc, that is a byproduct of a partial immersion in the electrochemical bath.

My wife laughs at me because I always lose focus at the counter when there's a 'give a penny take a penny' bowl because my eyes become fixated and she has to hit me !

What is a good starting price, on ebay for this, in this condition. Hard to tell, searching ebay. There is several full unplated, but zero partial plated? I was thinking about listing it for 20.00 starting is that too high?

Thanks for the image. It is a partial Grease Fill die on the ONE CENT area. Width is there, the depth is not.
