These two coins were graded by NGC. What is your grade for each coin?

1: XF-40
2: XF-45

It would not normally be worth it to slab common-date Indian half eagles with this much wear. However, it's perfectly OK to buy them already certified!

ksammut nailed it. Now, considering those 2 grades, compare those coins to the third coin. How would you grade the third coin?

Night-Hawk, your estimate for Coin 1 was EF-45, and for Coin 2 it was AU-50.

Coin 3 is better than the 2 other coins, which were actually NGC AU-50 and NGC AU-53.

Would you agree that coin 3 has better details?

They were extremely generous on that second one IMHO.

That's a lot of wear and appears lusterless.

But would you agree that the third one has better details than the second one?

Even the TPG graders admit that grading these $5 Indians is all over the map..
(and that is in hand..)

Obviously #3 is the better pic of all three, it has more contrast but it is just a pic.
As mentioned in other threads, with this wear if it has luster it's a low AU, otherwise XF.

Hopefully you have a chance to see them all in hand, they are all very close.
The nicest one will jump up at you..

Definitely. Your probably looking at an AU55 coin or there about.
It's hard to grade this incused design from pics.
This is an estimate.
