I have a 1964 DDR that looks different then examples I have seen . instead of the lettering doubled it looks tripled especially on the s and o and a's there is 3 strikes like 3 letters on top of each other. any ideas

It looks doubled to me, but a close up on "STATES" would be good, to be sure...also a picture of the obverse.

On doubled dies they are only struck once on business strikes and twice on proof cents. It is called a doubled die because the doubling is on the die.
