A friend of our's father passed away last week and he left some coins to her mom. She wanted to know a little info about them and what they are worth, in case she wanted to sell them. I told her I'll ask the best minds in the buisness (you guys and gals, of course) and let her know what I find out. Her they are, obverse and reverse on each:

I'm guessing about 20 dollars each. Anybody see something I don't?. I could be wrong.

The second one looks cleaned to me. You can still see dirt in "In God We Trust."

The 1890 appears to have original surfaces and I would grade it at VF35. I think it would sell for about $15-17.

The 1891 has been polished. (I'm guessing that it has a bright shine in spite of the wear?) This coin has F15-VF20 details, but the polishing takes away most of the numismatic value, though there is still intrinsic value because of the silver. I think this one would sell for around $12.50.

The 1891 definitely looks polished.

I think they are worth a lot of memories to the person that had them, and to the person that has them now cherish them because they came from the heart.

I'd say they're keepers.

Sorry for their loss. Personally, I'd hold on to them.

Sentimental value is very high, keep them and pass them down. Cash value is about dinner for two at Applebees.
