Hi everyone, my name is Ray. My collection is predominantly Canadian coins.
The first coin I collected was in 1967 but I didn't start real collecting until 1973 where I'd search my coins for old or interesting looking ones trying to fill in dates. I had no idea of the intricacies involved beyond any of that. I started 'serious' collecting in 1989 when I received a Proof set for Christmas, I had to add the new one in 1990 to keep the set going and that was it, I was hooked. Proof sets, Prestige sets, Uncirculated sets, Limited Editions, Commemorative Sets, you name it I wanted it, the Mint (
RCM) had my number lol.... then came
ebay, woohoo, now I can backfill!
Eventually I gave up the mint sets, they were far too numerous and over priced for my liking. I've never collected for investment, just the pure joy of looking at them. Now I'm back to my first love and the basics of scouring my change looking for an unusual gem. A few years ago I came across a 1947 VF20 - EF40 penny in my change, how exciting is that? In 2010 I found a
Mercury dime in my change in a small town in Ontario, how often does that happen?
Well, I'm off to spend a few hours on the forums.
