I just received this 1897 Liberty nickel. The top of the reverse is interesting. I'm not sure if the coin was struck with a misaligned die or if the reverse is slightly off-center.

What do people think?

Thanks for your opinions.

If only one side is affected, it's a MAD.

It's off-center when both sides are affected.

Nice looking coin.

It's a mis-aligned die until both sides are off in the same direction and part of the design is missing on both obv and rev.

Great condition though. That type of messed up coin is not common but also would not bring in a big amount of money.

If this coin is of proper rotation, the dies are misaligned - the wide spot is at the same place on the clock meaning if rotation is correct both dies are off. The collar holds the coin in the right spot.

This would be off-center if medal orientation.

Both dies are slightly misalligned, and if it is coin orientation they are misaligned in different directions.
