First there was Abe he was having a rough day-
1999-Mated-Pair,-Together-Again!

Then there was his brother Abe2, he was looking for an identity-
1999-Mated-Pair,-Together-Again!

Then came one day where they are reunited once again-
1999-Mated-Pair,-Together-Again!

1999-Mated-Pair,-Together-Again!
And they live happily ever after!

I hate to rain on your parade, but I don't think these particular two pieces were made at the same time. They don't fit together like a mated pair should. They were made by the same process, and are the two pieces to the same kind of error, but I think you've found cousins, not brothers.

They came out of the same mint sewn bag, it is possible they are cousins. I always wondered how people get there mated pair slabbed, I am sure there are pieces that would go together but really were not made that way.

Generally the two pieces fit together without a gap...not saying that all of them are that way for sure because I don't know...but to me if I had to make a guess, I would say that these were probably struck on the same day by the same malfunctioning machine, but were not struck together as you illustrate.
