Hello my name is Clay and I'm new to the forum I found this presidential coin among the many others I had and held onto it just because it was the only one I could find like it. There appears to be burrs three of them in total that you can see here. Not sure if this is done by the mint process or something afterwards. Also you can tell there are many more vertical lines but not nearly as significant as the three. They also appear to have exactly 1/3 spacing around the coin. Thanks!

I came here about a year ago asking the same question . Lol I ended up figuring it out . Look at the mint mark on th e coin buddy. It is a S mint it is a proof coin. Now since it's been in circulation it prob isn't perfect like most proofs I have found probably 10 of them searching box after box of small dollars. With them proof like that if and only if it's really messed up I used a really fluffy microfiber rag and some warm water and diluted hand soap. Most will say use mineral spirits or acetone to get particles off a coin but with those proofs th is is my best method. Make sure your cloth it clean cause any little scratch shows on proofs . Don't rub it dry but dab it dry and when had Ling proofs use gloves but since you found it searching just try to only touch the sides cause you will see every fingerprint t

Thanks! I'm definitely not too experienced with coins all together but I'm starting to escalate my interests recently. That would make sense since I would assume the edges are to hold the coin from spinning? I guess that means at some point someone busted this out of its case. Even though its circulated now would it still have any higher value than face? it still looks to be in rather nice looking condition.

Yeah idk why people break those out so much but I usually find 1 per thousand I look through and that's a staggering number of coins broken out if that's the Tru probability of it. Value it's tuff to say I keep mine but I would assume they are valued as a proof would be but any nick or scratch is going to bring down that prob or so down quit a bit . I'm not sure what a value would be on it . But you are correct about it to make sure they get correct alignment of the edge lettering so that there isn't a mistake like on so many business strikes

This is what brought Tweak here a year ago, and he's still coming back. That is how addicting this error coin searching is. Fascinating hobby, all kinds of strange anomalies, good stuff. I've been obsessing for 8 mnths. Been on here everyday, to see what is the new find. Unbelievable how much I have learned.

The images are from the site mentioned on the image. CoinNews.net
Not sure if they are still there, thus I snagged them when I saw them. There were a lot of images. It was under the title "San Francisco Mint."
