Check out this Maryland quater. There's "doubling" all through it, but I just zoomed on what caught my eye. What is it exactly?

Possibly Machine Doubling, but looks more like Die Deterioration Doubling.

I will take a shot at this, it is Machine Doubling. There is doubling around all the sides of the letters and the doubling is flat not rounded. If it was an doubled die the doubling would only show on one side of the device. Lets see what other say and see if I am learning this right.

Actually both Mechanical Doubling and Die Deterioration Doubling. LD show mostly Mechanical Doubling and the TE on STATE shows Die Deterioration Doubling.

That "orange peel" effect that you see on the right and left areas of the coin often show up as a die becomes really worn.

Lets see, with inflation and minted in 2000, I'd guess about 19 cents:-)

Aw man, I feel real dumb right now. I should edit, but I'm not. For some reason, I thought we were talking about a penny! Duh. So I guess I lost 6 cents. That stinks...
