Hi !

Still trying to piece together my 1878-S MS-63 dmpl
Broken R verified (partial) not gone, Doubled and broken B
Have the R as a hub break ( VAM 2)reverse B2b (184)I-2 R-2 (pretty sure). Looking at the VAM pic. on the doubled B at vamworld site,
it is correct as far as the thin bottom line (crossbar) of the B but I still have the doubling on it in 2 other

Image: For-The-VAM-Xperts brokenR.gif
50.28 KB

Image: For-The-VAM-Xperts vam9dbldB.gif
86.17 KB areas also. Just these two attributes together do not add up to one VAM. Looked at the feathers and found nothing. That would of helped but ?
Posted the two pics. and added where the extra doubling is on the B
The B pic. is a VAM 9

Thank's, Hope it helps

There are 106 VAMs for the 1878S Morgan dollar, as of the last supplement issued by Leroy. I also saw Bryan was trying to work with you on this earlier, but I'm not seeing actual pictures of your coin, and it takes a bunch of them to do it on this year and mint mark. Either give us pictures or send $19.95 + $3 S&H to Leroy Van Allen P.O. Box 196 Sidney, Oh 45365 for the 1878S Attribution Guide. Without seeing what your asking us to attribute is time we could spend helping someone else who does take good pictures and if you aren't able to take pictures of your coin then its another reason to buy the book.

O.K. Thank's

I received an email from someone who stated they would attribute it
for free, but I am a little leery about that. The pics. I sent are exactly like my coin. I was just confused as to just those two attributes (i can find no others on the coin) adding up to one verified VAM. Will have to look at all 100 plus then. or just list it
with the two VAM #'s that already exist.

One coin can only have one VAM number. Think of it as a die marriage. It can't have 2 different VAM numbers.

If you are only looking for a VAM number to list it on ebay, unless it is a Hot 50 or Top 100, I wouldn't bother. Registry VAMs are the only hot VAMs right now, and if they aren't in PCGS plastic, I am not seeing them sell very high right now.

Just take good pics and let her rip.

No, not listing it on ebay.
I understand the VAM process, I just cannot get the coins attributes
to equal any listed 106 vams for this date. I'm checking every book
and site and so far Ziltch. However, this may be a good thing. You never know ? A long shot but it may be new. I wish :)
It's a weird reverse for sure. Even the angle of the upper tail feather as to the arrow shaft does not jive with a concave breast. Unless I can find an engraved spot on the right wing feather
it has to be something diff. Not too many 1878-S morgans out there with this coins luster plus one stupid scratch on the face shy of an MS-64 to boot. Maybe it's a proof gone astray. Oh well, thank you all
anyway.
