Ok, so I stumbled across some threads here and on CoinTalk about VAMs and I started looking at VAMWorld and looking at the few Peace and Morgans that I have. Two of them look like they might be nice VAMs. I know, all Morgans and Peace dollars are VAMs by nature. But these two fit descriptions on VAMWorld. Let me describe them as I am not sure that I can adequately photograph them, though I will try later.

First is a 1922P Peace which has what looks like a clash going up from the rim between IN and GOD up to the dot in between. The mark is thick at the rim and tapers up to the dot and is raised. There look like there are faint echoes of it slightly to the right. I think that this is VAM 1D.

The second is a 1923S with clashes on the eagle's right shoulder. There are two clash marks that are quite plain. The problem I am having is that there are several VAMs listed with clashes on the eagle's shoulder. The one that most nearly looks like what I have is 1P, but I am not sure.

Now the questions. VAMWorld says that the 1D is R-4 and the 1P is R-5. I am still learning how to grade coins and so I am going to only guess that the 1923S 1P (?) is probably around VF and the 1922P 1D (?) is around XF. Given that, is it worth while getting these two graded and authenticated? No, I have no intent to sell them, I'd really just like to know what they are and what their possible worth might be. So what are your thoughts given the information I have presented?

Thanks - Tony

Actually, the clash on the 1923S looks almost exactly like VAM-1AE on VAMworld. I had no idea that there were that many clashes on the eagle's shoulder. They still list that at R-5 so the same question applies. And who would you send it to for authentication if it is worth it?

Unless they are a Top 50 VAM, it won't be worth the expense of grading and attributing. If you still want to get them attributed just for the heck of it, ANACS attributes all Peace VAM varieties, whereas NGC, ICG, and PCGS only do the Top 50 I believe.
